When Can AeroBarrier Be Installed?

When can AeroBarrier be installed, and when is it most effective? Contractors and homeowners have two main options:

  • New Construction

New constructions are typically air sealed at rough-in/drywall stage because that's when air leak sealing is easiest. House sealing for new constructions is generally cheaper because of the small amount of prep work needed to be done. Prep work involves covering finished surfaces that are horizontal to avoid the product adhering to the surface.

  • Existing Houses

Existing houses can also be air sealed with an AeroBarrier retrofit but require more prep work; because of this, it costs slightly more. Any surface that is finished and horizontal needs to be covered before the house air sealing process as the product will adhere to it as it settles. This may include flooring, countertops, appliances, hanging lights, windowsills, and furniture.
